Madrid, 11 December 2024 – Aquila Clean Energy, a developer of integrated & hybrid clean energy solutions and an independent power producer, has begun the construction of two new solar plants in the provinces of Valladolid and Almeria.
These projects, which will have peak power capacity of 17 MW and 37.5 MW respectively, will produce energy to supply more than 26,596 households annually and avoid the potential emission of 26,160 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
“The start of construction of these two new photovoltaic projects represents a further step in our commitment to the energy transition. Each megawatt of installed capacity will not only drive clean energy generation but will also have a positive impact on the local community. The global demand for energy continues to grow and it is essential that we continue to promote projects of this type in order to meet it in a more sustainable way,” said Germán Garde, Director of Construction for Aquila Clean Energy in Spain.
For the construction of these projects, the company is committed to implementing a series of social and environmental measures in the regions where it operates.
With regard to environmental measures, and in line with the requirements of the project’s Environmental Impact Statement, Aquila Clean Energy will install vegetation screens, monitor steppe bird populations, carry out a recovery and conservation programme for the endangered plant Linaria nigricans and install pollinator shelters and nesting boxes for birds of prey and bats.
In addition, in the social sphere, the company has undertaken to carry out theoretical and practical training in the installation and maintenance of solar plants for local workers and to hold environmental education days for pupils at public schools in the region. Aquila Clean Energy has also signed a business collaboration agreement with the Talento 58 Foundation with the aim of promoting employment and entrepreneurship in the region.
Aquila Clean Energy has developed and built a total of twelve projects that are already operational in Spain with a total capacity of more than 400 MW. In addition, the company is currently developing projects using solar photovoltaic, wind energy and battery energy storage technologies with a capacity of around 4 GW.
Aquila Clean Energy has seven UNEF Seals of Excellence for Sustainability for its renewable energy projects in Spain, demonstrating the company’s commitment to the social and environmental compatibility of its projects.
